HORNAGROFISH

Our Aim is to Enhance sustainable agriculture and fisheries in Somalia by promoting innovative practices, empowering local communities, and ensuring food security through responsible resource management and technological advancement.

About Us

HOORNAGROFISH exists to serve as a comprehensive resource for agricultural reforms and innovations in Somalia. Somalia’s agricultural sector is the backbone of the economy, contributing to over 70 percent of total GDP, 80 percent of its employment, and about 50 percent of its exports.  The country has over 8.9M hectares of arable land. The country also has two major rivers stretching over 2,500KM.Its rich soils, particularly in the riverine areas, support the year-round production of cereals, pulses, vegetables, and fruit, among other agricultural products, fostering informed decision-making and promoting sustainable agricultural development. Major exports include sesame and dried lemons and substantial forestry products, such as gums and resins, to major global destinations.

Leading Sector Opportunities:

Crops Farming

Agricultural production is concentrated mainly in the southern part of the country, where the most fertile land is located, and riverine water irrigation is abundantly available.  Primary agricultural produce includes coarse grains, oil crops, and horticultural crops (i.e. fruits and vegetables).

Fisheries

Major fish resources found in Somali waters range from large, highly migratory species (such as tuna) to smaller fish, crustaceans, and other reef species. The country reportedly could harvest well over 200,000 metric tons of fish per year if it reached its sustainable potential.
